Orcas

Orcas are commonly seen in Sitka, Alaska. While there isn't a resident pod in Sitka Sound, transient pods are frequently spotted. Orcas travel in pods, which are family groups ranging from a few to over 15 members. These marine mammals are known for their distinctive black and white markings and opportunistic hunting habits.

Glacier Bay National Park

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is an national park of the United States located in Southeast Alaska west of Juneau. Lofty mountain peaks, ice-sculpted fjords, an abundance of marine wildlife, and massive tidewater glaciers have made Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve one of Alaska's most spectacular settings. The park is home to over 1,000 glaciers, each contributing to the area's breathtaking scenery and ecological diversity. The park's glaciers are spread across 3.3 million acres, and many are visible along the shores of the bay itself. Glacier Bay provides habitat for a wide range of marine and land mammals. Orcas, humpback whales, harbor porpoises, Steller sea lions, and sea otters are commonly seen in the area’s waters. On land, keep an eye out for moose, brown and black bears, mountain goats, lynx, and porcupines. Over 280 bird species have been identified in the park including puffins, cormorants and bald eagles.

Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve is an American national park that protects portions of the Brooks Range in northern Alaska. The park is the northernmost national park in the United States, situated entirely north of the Arctic Circle. The park is characterized by rugged peaks, glaciated arctic valleys, wild and scenic rivers, and many lakes. Foothills become waves of mountain peaks rising to elevations of 4,000 feet, with the tallest limestone and granite ridges reaching over 7,000 feet. The landscape is covered by sparse black spruce forests, boreal forest, and arctic tundra. The park contains major portions of the range and habitat of the Western Arctic caribou herd. Moose, Dall sheep, wolverines, wolves, and grizzly and black bears also inhabit the land.

Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve

Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve was established in 1980, covering 20,587.19 sq mi (53,320.57 km2). The park includes a large portion of the Saint Elias Mountains, which include most of the highest peaks in the United States and Canada, yet are within 10 miles (16 km) of tidewater, one of the highest reliefs in the world.
