Red Panda

A red panda from Artis, a zoo and botanical garden in the centre of Amsterdam. It is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and fifth oldest zoo in the world that is still operating.  Artis contains 27 historically significant buildings, bridges, and ponds, most of which are still used as animal enclosures. The former Monkey Rock underwent a complete transformation and is now inhabited by two new animal species. Since May, small-clawed otters have been living on the Rock, and since september, visitors can also see the endangered red panda there. The iconic Rock retains its character as a landscape feature and now forms a green island.

Canal Houses

The famous Amsterdam canals and its canal houses are part of the United Nations World Heritage. The impressive mansions along the Amsterdam canals were built during the Golden Age of Amsterdam. The lavish interior of the Amsterdam canal houses and their architecture reflect the financial and societal success of the merchant families in 17th century Amsterdam. Typical of the Amsterdam Canal Houses are their narrow facades. It was considered ugly if you could see the roof from the street. The roof was therefore hidden from view by a gable.

Amsterdam - Prinsengracht

The Prinsengracht is a 3.2-kilometer-long canal that runs parallel to the Keizersgracht in the center of Amsterdam. The canal, named after the Prince of Orange, is the fourth of the four main canals belonging to the canal belt.

My 100th card!

My 100 card is one from Amsterdam again! I love those canals in the city. This card shows 'Keizergracht/Leidsegracht'.
Keizersgracht (literal English translation: Emperor's Canal) is the second and widest of the three major canals in the city centre of Amsterdam, in between Herengracht and Prinsengracht.

Red light district

My second card from Amsterdam. This one is showing Red Light District. It covers a large area of the oldest part of the city. The buildings are tall, thin and crowd together, overlooking the tree lined canals. The Amsterdam Red Light District is a beautiful area and the later it gets, the busier it gets. And the darker it gets, the more obvious the glow of the fluorescent red lights above the many windows in the area becomes.

My first card from the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam! The card shows the Herengracht.

Amsterdam, located in the province of North Holland, has been called the "Venice of the North" for its more than one hundred kilometres of canals, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. Alongside the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings. The 17th-century canal ring area, including the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Jordaan, are put on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Herengracht (Patricians' Canal or Lord's Canal) is the first of the three major canals in the city centre of Amsterdam. The canal is named after the heren regeerders who governed the city in the 16th and 17th century. The most fashionable part is called the Golden Bend, with many double wide mansions, inner gardens and coach houses on Keizersgracht.
