Baku

October 19, 2023

Built on a site inhabited since the Palaeolithic period, the Walled City of Baku reveals evidence of Zoroastrian, Sasanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani, Ottoman, and Russian presence in cultural continuity. The Inner City has preserved much of its 12th-century defensive walls. The 12th-century Maiden Tower is built over earlier structures dating from the 7th to 6th centuries BC, and the 15th-century Shirvanshahs' Palace is one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture.

My first card from Azerbaijan and its capital Baku.
The Maiden Tower  is a 12th-century monument in the Old City. Along with the Shirvanshahs' Palace, dated to the 15th century, it forms a group of historic monuments listed in 2001 by UNESCO. It is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national emblems. The Maiden Tower houses a museum, which presents the story of historic evolution of the Baku city.

Thanks a lot for the swap Rafal!
