Noah

Noah, one of the sun bears in the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, a sun bear rescue and rehabilitation facility being developed in Sabah. Sun bears are the smallest bears in the world and are only found in Southeast Asia. These bears continue to be threatened by forest degradation, illegal hunting for bear parts and poaching to obtain young cubs for pet trade. The results of these threats has caused young sun bears found to be living in unnatural captive conditions in Sabah, with no access to outdoor areas. There are currently 41 rescued ex-captive sun bears residing at the BSBCC and 2 juveniles at our camp in Tabin Wildlife Reserve. The facility includes large forest enclosures to provide a natural environment suited to the needs and welfare of the sun bears and facilitate their rehabilitation back into the wild.

Korkeasaari Zoo

Korkeasaari Zoo currently has two brown bears, Sofia, who was born in 2001 and her daughter Yulia, born in 2006. Sofia was born at Ähtäri Zoo and has a distinct fondness for wading, a trait not shared by her daughter. Yulia enjoys swimming.

Estonia is home to a healthy and growing brown bear population, with roughly 900-950 individuals. While sightings are increasing, they are still more common in the northeastern part of the country, especially in areas like Alutaguse National Park.

Kuril Lake

Kuril Lake, a nature reserve, is a caldera and crater lake in Kamchatka. The lake was formed about 8,000 years ago as a result of a series of enormous volcanic explosions which shook southern Kamchatka. Today, Kuril Lake is the second largest freshwater reservoir in Kamchatka. It covers 77 square kilometers. In 1998, Kuril Lake had the highest density of brown bears of Kamchatka, and possibly of the entirety of Russia.

Bear Cub

A black bear cub is born exceptionally small, but will double its birth-weight within two weeks. A newborn cub has blue eyes that remain closed until about the same time it learns to walk. Its sharp claws develop rapidly to enable it to climb trees, and after about three months the cub is able to leave the den to explore the outside. Diet for a young cub includes fruit, herbs, carrion and grass.

Český Krumlov

Situated on the banks of the Vltava river, Český Krumlov was built around a 13th-century castle with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. It is an outstanding example of a small central European medieval town whose architectural heritage has remained intact thanks to its peaceful evolution over more than five centuries. There are four bears living in the protective moat between the castle’s first and second courtyard. The history of bear-keeping at Český Krumlov Castle goes back to the 16th century, the era of the last Rosenbergs. Bears have been kept in the bear moat since 1707.

Lake Tahoe

Black Bear (Ursus americanus). Weighing about ½ lb at birth, black bear cubs usually arrive in Lake Tahoe area in early February.

The largest of the the Sierra carnivores, the Black Bear is found in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin. As common residents of the Tahoe National Forest, black bears primarily live in the forest and woodlands. Black bears are omnivores, which mean they will eat just about anything. In California, they eat a variety of food items often based on seasonal availability. This includes grasses, tubers, roots, seeds, nuts, grubs, ants, carrion, small mammals, young calf elk, fawn deer, and even birds and their eggs.

From Canada

Two cute bear cubs sent from Canada. The North American brown bear, also nicknamed the grizzly, is frequently spotted in Canada’s North and on the West Coast. What distinguishes grizzly bear subspecies from other brown bears is geography – the brown bears of Eurasia are a different subspecies to their grizzled American counterparts. Coastal bears tend to be bigger than inland ones.

These adorable black bear cubs will grow to be big burly inhabitants of Canda's dense bush and forest.

The black bear Ursus americanus is one of the most familiar wild animals in North America today. In Canada, the species has been extirpated from the most southern parts of the country. It is not found on Prince Edward Island, on Anticosti Island, in southern Ontario, in southern Saskatchewan, or in southern Alberta.
