Bonaire only has one species of Iguana, the Green Iguana. These species can reach up to two meters and can weigh up to 5 kilograms, and are among the largest lizards in the Americas. The Green Iguana’s habitats include the rain forests of northern Mexico, the Caribbean islands, southern part of Brazil and central America. They are mostly herbivores and eat leaves, fruit and flowers. They are active during the day and like to live near water.

Klein Bonaire

November 11, 2023

Klein Bonaire is a small uninhabited islet off the west coast of the Caribbean island of Bonaire. The distance from the shore of Bonaire to the shore of Klein Bonaire is about 800 metres at the nearest point. This span is frequently traversed by private and commercial boats and can be done by kayak. The primary attraction for visitors is scuba diving and snorkeling the pristine coral reef surrounding the islet. The Klein Bonaire islet, which sits within the rough crescent formed by the main island, is 6 square kilometres and extremely flat, rising no more than two meters above the sea. The only structures on the island are some ruins of slave huts, and a small open shelter on the beach facing Bonaire.

Red Slave

November 18, 2022

Red Slave is one of the southernmost dive sites, named for the red-painted slave huts on shore. Back in Bonaire’s slavery days, these tiny huts were living quarters. They were built in 1850. This was 13 years before slavery was abolished on Bonaire. Now, they remain as monuments.

Bonaire

September 10, 2022

Atlantis Kite Beach Bonaire is one of the best kitesurfing spots in the world. On Bonaire, not a single day goes by without wind. The wind blows with an average speed of about 17 to 22 knots throughout almost all of the whole year. With an average temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, a sea temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius and reasonably calm water with small waves, Bonaire offers the perfect conditions for kitesurfing. While kitesurfing you'll regularly come across turtles and, if you’re lucky, dolphins.

From Bonaire

August 07, 2022

From Bonaire, an island municipality of the Netherlands, located off Venezuela’s coast in the southern Caribbean. Its reef-lined coast is protected by Bonaire National Marine Park. Beyond its rich marine life, the island shelters lizards, donkeys and birds within its immense Washington Slagbaai National Park, marked by beaches, lagoons, caverns and desert-like hills.

Thanks a lot Maureen!

Bonaire

February 05, 2022
Kralendijk is the capital city and main port of Bonaire, a Dutch island in the Caribbean Sea. Colorful architecture dots the shopping street of Kaya Grandi. The Bonaire Museum displays archaeological finds, shells and old photos. Off the coast is Bonaire National Marine Park, with a coral reef sheltering tropical fish. This stretches west to Klein Bonaire Island, where the sandy beaches provide a nesting ground for sea turtles.

Thanks so much Inez!
