U.S. Capitol

The Capitol of the United States crowns Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. It houses the legislative branch of government which is comprised of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The United States Capitol Building is located in Washington, D.C., at the eastern end of the National Mall on a plateau 88 feet above the level of the Potomac River, commanding a westward view across the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool to the Washington Monument 1.4 miles away and the Lincoln Memorial 2.2 miles away. It is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world.  It covers well over 1.5 million square feet, has over 600 rooms, and miles of corridors. It is crowned by a magnificent white dome that overlooks the city of Washington and has become a widely recognized icon of the American people and government.

Minnesota State Capitol

This view of Minnesota's capitol building highlights one of the many flower gardens on the grounds which compliment the building designed by Cass Gilbert.

The Minnesota State Capitol is located in its capital city of Saint Paul. Set near the crest of a hill, from the Capitol steps a panoramic view of downtown Saint Paul is presented. The Capitol features the second-largest self-supporting marble dome in the world, works by important 19th- and 20th-century artists, and battle flags from the Civil and Spanish-American Wars.

Texas State Capitol

The Texas capital has the largest state capitol building in the United States. Red granite from the Marble Falls area was used in the construction.
The granite Texas statehouse stands as a testament to the history of the Lone Star State. The Texas Capitol is widely recognized as one of the nation's most distinguished state capitols. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

Rhode Island State House

the Rhode Island State House, built in 1893, contains of vast arrayt of famous paintings and historical treasures, including the original colonial charter of 1663 from King Charles II. Its gleaming marble dome modeled after the dome of St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, is the fourth-largest unsupported dome in the world.

Salt Lake City

A beautiful view from Salt Lake City with the temple spires and capitol dome.
Utah's Capitol building, located on a hill overlooking downtown Salt Lake City, is an elegant architectural masterpiece. The building is set on over 40 acres, with beautifully maintained and sculpted lawns, trees, flowerbeds, and shrubs. The Salt Lake Temple is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Temple Square. Like other Latter-day Saint temples, the church and its members consider it sacred and a temple recommend is required to enter.  The six spires of the temple represent the power of the priesthood.

California State Capitol

The California State Capitol, the seat of the Californian government, is located in Sacramento, the capital of California.  Located at the west end of Capitol Park and the east end of the Capitol Mall, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The California State Capitol Museum is housed on the grounds of the capitol.

Hawaii State Capitol

The State Capitol was dedicated by John A. Burns, 2nd Governor of Hawaii, March 15,1969. Located in downtown Honolulu, the Hawaii State Capitol's distinct architectural features symbolize various natural aspects of Hawaii. The building is surrounded by a reflecting pool, symbolizing the Pacific Ocean. The two legislative chambers are cone-shaped, symbolizing volcanoes that formed the Hawaiian Islands. The columns around the perimeter of the building have shapes resembling royal palm trees. There are eight columns in four rows at either side of the building, representing the eight main islands of Hawaii; sets of eight items appear in other places inside and along the outside of the building.

State Capitol Building

Indiana's State Capitol Building is a leading landmark in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. constructed of native Indiana limestone in Classic Corinthian design, the beautiful Indiana State House was completed in 1888.
