The Royal Guards at Amalienborg Castle Square

February 03, 2021
Amalienborg is the home of the Danish royal family. It consists of four identical classical palace façades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard. In the centre of the square is a monumental equestrian statue of Amalienborg's founder, King Frederick V.
Amalienborg is famous for its Royal Guard, called Den Kongelige Livgarde. Every day you can experience the changing of the guards, as they march from their barracks in 100 Gothersgade by Rosenborg Castle through the streets of Copenhagen and end up at Amalienborg, where the changing of the guard takes place at 12:00 noon.

The Little Mermaid

February 13, 2012

My first card from Denmark and what a beauty!! The card shows statue 'The little Mermaid' by Edvard Eriksen. The Little Mermaid is a legendary icon and symbol for Copenhagen and the number one tourist attraction in Denmark. Based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, it sits close to the shore of Langelinie on her granite resting place, gazing towards the harbor entrance.
