Greetings from... Faroe Islands

October 31, 2024

Greetings from... Faroe Islands, a self-governing archipelago, part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It comprises 18 rocky, volcanic islands between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean, connected by road tunnels, ferries, causeways and bridges. Hikers and bird-watchers are drawn to the islands’ mountains, valleys and grassy heathland, and steep coastal cliffs that harbor thousands of seabirds.

Flags of the World - Faroe Islands

April 16, 2021

Flag of the Faroe Islands is an offset cross, which represents Christianity. It is similar in construction to the other Nordic flags the tradition set the Dannebrog of Denmark, of which the Faroe Islands are an Autonomous territory. The flag is called the Merkid, meaning 'the banner' or 'sign'. It resembles the flags of neighboring Norway and Iceland.

Thanks so much Nina!
