Helgoland

March 03, 2024
Helgoland is a small German archipelago in the North Sea. It's a somewhat popular destination for one-day ship cruises. A feature of the island is almost total absence of car traffic, which makes it a safe and quiet location, and a hotspot for birdwatching. The island is famous for its Lange Anna spire, cliffs of red rock, sandy beaches and wildlife.

Lange Anna

May 10, 2022

Lange Annais a 47-metre high sea stack of Buntsandstein in the North Sea island of Heligoland. In 1969 it was declared a natural monument.  Although Lange Anna is not freely accessible to tourists for nature conservation reasons, it offers a great opportunity for impressive photos. Numerous seabirds such as guillemots, kittiwakes and gannets breed on the red rock .The reddish rock of Lange Anna is interspersed with lighter horizontal layers and looks back on an eventful history. Originally, the boulder was connected to the main island by an arch. On May 16, 1860, it collapsed.

Helgoland

The island Helgoland is famous for its Lange Anna spire, cliffs of red rock, sandy beaches and wildlife. It  is located 46 kilometres off the German coastline and consists of two islands: the populated triangular 1 km2  main island to the west, and the Düne to the east. The island of Heligoland is a geological oddity, the presence of the main island's characteristic red sedimentary rock in the middle of the German Bight is unusual. It is the only such formation of cliffs along the continental coast of the North Sea.
