Flags of the World - Iran

After the Iranian Revolution, the present-day Iranian flag was adopted in980. The colour scheme of green, white and red symbolise Islam, peace and bravery respectively. The arms in the centre consist of four half moons grouped around a sword, these five elements symbolise the five pillars of Islam. The stylized lettering at the edges of the white stripe say 'Allah is Great' 22 times.

Shrine in Tabas

One of the holy and historical places in Tabas is the shrine of Imamzadeh Hussein Ibn Musa Ibn Kazem (AS), which has a special place among the people of this city. The building was registered in 1318 in the list of national monuments of Iran. Its vast and beautiful green space with a variety of trees and plants, especially palms and oranges along with its magnificent architecture have made it one of the most magnificent and extensive mansions, gardens, and surrounding space among the shrines of Iran. The most prominent decorative element in the Islamic architecture of this geosite is the tiling with style and architecture based on Islamic motifs and Quranic verses.

Rudkhan Castle

Rudkhan Castle is a brick and stone medieval fortress in Iran that was built by the Talysh people to defend against the Arab invaders during the Muslim conquest of Persia. Rudkhan Castle sits at the two peaks of a mountain at elevations of 715 and 670 metres and contains strong fortifications and battlements at a length of 1,550 metres. The castle's 42 towers still stand intact.

Bam Citadel

The Arg-e Bam, located in the city of Bam, Kerman Province of southeastern Iran, is the largest adobe building in the world. The entire building was a large fortress containing the citadel, but because the citadel dominates the ruins, the entire fortress is now named Bam Citadel. Listed by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage Site "Bam and its Cultural Landscape", it can be traced back to at least the Achaemenid Empire. The citadel rose to importance from the seventh to eleventh centuries, as a crossroads along the Silk Road and other important trade routes, and as a producer of silk and cotton garments.

Amir Chakhmaq Complex

Dating back to the 15th century, the Amir Chakhmaq Complex is the center of Yazd's historic old town. It is claimed to be the most significant historic feature in Yazd. It is noted for its symmetrical sunken alcoves. The mosque located on a square of the same name. It also contains a caravanserai, a tekyeh, a bathhouse, a cold water well, and a confectionery. At night, the building is lit up after twilight hours after sun set with orange lighting in the arched alcoves which makes it a spectacle.

Naqsh-e Rostam

Naqsh-e Rostam is an ancient archeological site and necropolis located about 12 km northwest of Persepolis, in Fars Province. A collection of ancient Iranian rock reliefs are cut into the face of the mountain and the mountain contains the final resting place of four Achaemenid kings notably king Darius the Great and his son, Xerxes. This site is of great significance to the history of Iran and to Iranians, as it contains various archeological sites carved into the rock wall through time for more than a millennium from the Elamites and Achaemenids to Sassanians.

Ali Gholi Agha hammam

The Ali Gholi Agha hammam is a historical hammam in Isfahan,. The hammam was built in 1713 by Ali Gholi Agha, who was a courtier of two Safavid kings. Its architectural style is Isfahani and it was built in the late Safavid era. The structure consists of one large hammam and a small hammam and also a Howz. Each of these hammams consists of a dressing room and a Garmkhaneh (hothouse), so that they could be used in that time separately by men and women. At present, the structure is a museum and can be visited by tourists.

Naghsh-e Jahan Square

The Meidan Emam, also known as Naghsh-e Jahan Square, is a public urban square in the centre of Esfahan, a city located on the main north-south and east-west routes crossing central Iran. It is one of the largest city squares in the world and an outstanding example of Iranian and Islamic architecture. 
Built by Shah Abbas I the Great at the beginning of the 17th century, and bordered on all sides by monumental buildings linked by a series of two-storeyed arcades, the site is known for the Royal Mosque, the Mosque of Sheykh Lotfollah, the magnificent Portico of Qaysariyyeh and the 15th-century Timurid palace.

Azadi Tower

The Azadi Tower (Freedom Tower), is a monument located on Azadi Square in Tehran. It is one of the landmarks of Tehran, marking the west entrance to the city, and is part of the Azadi Cultural Complex, which also includes an underground museum. The area of the square is 78,000 square meters. This tower is built as a gate with a height of about 45 meters from the ground and has eight separate sections. Around the tower is planted with beautiful flowers. Iron and Isfahan-marble have been used in the construction of the tower.

Abyaneh Village, Isfahan

Abyaneh is a historic village in Esfahan province. The village is in a long and narrow valley on the foot of Kakas Mountains. The alleys are narrow with mud brick houses on both sides with beautiful lattice windows and small balconies looking over the alley.  Because of its mountainous setting, Abyaneh stayed isolated for many years and people’s customs and language is untouched and preserved. In Abyaneh people speak Farsi with a special dialect belonging to the village only.
