Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island lies off the mainland of South Australia, southwest of Adelaide. Over a third of the island is protected in nature reserves, home to native wildlife like sea lions, koalas and diverse bird species. In the west, Flinders Chase National Park is known for penguin colonies and striking coastal rock formations, like the sculpted Remarkable Rocks and the stalactite-covered Admirals Arch.

Seal Bay

A card from Seal Bay, Kangaroo Island. This is where the island’s resident Australian sea lion colony gather together to bask in the sun after a day spent fishing in the surrounding ocean. The bay boasts the third largest colony of these sea lions in the country and is one of the most popular stops for visitors on the island. To get down to the beach where the sea lions bask, frolic, and bathe, you have to pay for a tour – this is a system put in place to protect the colony and their future.

Koalas

On the Island there is a wildlife sanctuary called Hanson Bay. It's famous for its Koala Walk where you see the koalas in their natural habitat.

Remarkable Rocks

The Remarkable Rocks, another geological feature on Kangaroo Island.
It took 500 million years for rain, wind, and pounding waves to create these aptly named granite boulders which are now part of the Flinders Chase National Park.

Admirals Arch

I also brought some postcards from my trip to Kangaroo Island! This is 'Admirals Arch at Cape du Couedic'. This beautiful Arch is part of Flinders Chase National Park.

Admirals Arch is one of Kangaroo Island's most impressive and unusual natural landmarks. It took thousands of years of erosion to create this distinctive rock bridge near the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse on the island's southwest coast. The boardwalk leading to the Admirals Arch is nearly as scenic as the landmark itself.
