Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court building is part of the 'Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai' which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018. Having become a global trading centre, the city of Mumbai implemented an ambitious urban planning project in the second half of the 19th century. It led to the construction of ensembles of public buildings bordering the Oval Maidan open space, first in the Victorian Neo-Gothic style and then, in the early 20th century, in the Art Deco idiom. The Victorian ensemble includes Indian elements suited to the climate, including balconies and verandas. The Art Deco edifices, with their cinemas and residential buildings, blend Indian design with Art Deco imagery, creating a unique style that has been described as Indo-Deco. These two ensembles bear testimony to the phases of modernization that Mumbai has undergone in the course of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The high court building itself is a prominent example of Victorian Gothic architecture and is a key element within the broader ensemble that was recognized for its exceptional cultural and historical significance.

The Horniman Circle

The Horniman Circle is a large area with a garden in South Mumbai, India. It is situated in the Fort district of Mumbai, and is surrounded by office complexes housing the country's premier banks. The garden was designed to be a large open space with grand buildings in the middle of the walled city, the area had been known as Bombay Green in the 18th century, later Elphinstone circle. Following India's independence in 1947, the area was renamed in honour of Benjamin Horniman, editor of The Bombay Chronicle newspaper, who supported Indian independence.

Gateway of India

The Gateway of India is an arch monument built during the 20th century in Mumbai. The monument was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder on their visit to India in 1911.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly Victoria Terminus, is a historic railway terminus and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai which serves as the headquarters of the Central Railway. The station has been designed by Frederick William Stevens.

It is an outstanding example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture in India, blended with themes deriving from Indian traditional architecture. It  became the symbol of Bombay as the Gothic City and the major international mercantile port of India. Its remarkable stone dome, turrets, pointed arches and eccentric ground plan are close to traditional Indian palace architecture.

Mahalakshmi Race Course

The Mahalaxmi Racecourse is a horse racing track in Mahalaxmi neighbourhood of Mumbai. The track is oval shaped with 2,400 metres straight chute, spread over approximately 225 acres of open land in the heart of Mumbai city.
