Turtle Back Zoo

Home to a flock of endangered African Penguins, Turtle Back Zoo participates in the penguin species survival plan breeding program. In the new exhibit 'Shores of Africa' you see an incubation room where Keeper Staff can help rear these threatened populations. Three viewing stations let you experience the penguins from land to fully underwater.

Emperor Penguin


Emperor penguins are amazing birds. They not only survive the Antarctic winter, but they breed during the worst weather conditions on earth. The emperor is the largest of the 18 penguin species. Adults can weigh up to 40 kg at the start of the breeding season. Emperor penguins breed in colonies scattered around the Antarctic continent. Colonies range in size from a few hundred to over 20,000 pairs. Most colonies are situated on the fast-ice that is locked between islands or grounded icebergs.

Voronezh Oceanarium

The Voronezh Oceanarium is located in the shopping-entertainment center City Park Grad on the outskirts of Voronezh in the village of Solnechnyy. Its collection includes more than 300 species of fish and other animals like reptiles, mammals, invertebrates and birds. Among them are such rare species as sand tiger shark, giant green Caribbean moray eel, Okinawa dragon moray eel, mata mata turtle, Humboldt penguin and others. The route for viewing the aquarium’s exhibition includes four thematic zones: Forests and steppes, Polar waters, Jungles and Seas and oceans.

From Port Lockroy

A beautiful penguin card sent from Port Lockroy, British Antarctic Territory. Port Lockroy is a historic site and monument under the Antarctic Treaty. It is famed for having the southernmost post office in the world, which in 1996 was renovated to serve also as a museum.

Adélie penguin

During the spring breeding season, in October, they take to the rocky Antarctic coastline where they live in large communities called colonies.
