Sveta Nedelya Cathedral

The Cathedral of Saint Nedelya, also known as Sveta Nedelya, is an ornate Orthodox church located in the heart of Sofia. Originally a small wooden church dating back to the 10th century, it was later rebuilt into a grand cathedral in 1856. The cathedral features a majestic medieval design with a huge central dome and bell tower. Despite being severely damaged in a terrorist attack in 1925, the cathedral was reconstructed and still retains its historical charm. The neo-Byzantine cathedral is known for its ornate frescoes, gilded iconostasis, and profound history.

Saint Petka Church

The Church of St Petka of the Saddlers is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church in Sofia. It is a small one-naved building partially dug into the ground located in the very centre of the city. The church features a semi-cylindrical vault, a hemispherical apse, and a crypt discovered during excavations after the Second World War. The walls are 1 m thick and made from brick and stone. The church was first mentioned in the 16th century and was constructed at the place of a former Roman religious building. It is today a monument of culture known for its mural paintings from the 14th, 15th, 17th and 19th centuries depicting biblical scenes. The church is dedicated to St Petka, an 11th century Bulgarian saint.

St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in Sofia. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and it is one of the 50 largest Christian church buildings by volume in the world. It is one of Sofia's symbols and primary tourist attractions. The cathedral occupies an area of 3,170 square metres and can hold 5,000 people inside. It is among the 10 largest Eastern Orthodox church buildings and the largest cathedral in the Balkans. The cathedral is a cross-domed basilica featuring an emphasized central dome. The cathedral's gold-plated dome is 45 m high with the bell tower reaching 53 metres.

Lions' Bridge

Lions' Bridge is a bridge over the Vladaya River in the centre of Sofia. It gives the name to the important and busy junction of Marie Louise Boulevard and Slivnitsa Boulevard, at which it is located, connecting the Central Railway Station with the city centre and marking its northern border.

St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

Another wonderful view of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a cross-domed basilica featuring an emphasized central dome. The interior is decorated with Italian marble in various colours, Brazilian onyx, alabaster, and other luxurious materials. The central dome has the Lord’s Prayer inscribed around it, with thin gold letters.

Sofia

A beautiful night view of Sofia, the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. It is situated in the Sofia Valley at the foot of the Vitosha mountain in the western parts of the country. The city is built west of the Iskar river, and has many mineral springs, such as the Sofia Central Mineral Baths. The city’s landmarks reflect more than 2,000 years of history, including Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet occupation.

Alexander Nevski Cathedral

The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral  is a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in Sofia. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world, as well as one of Sofia’s symbols and primary tourist attractions.  It was built in the early 20th century in memory of the 200,000 Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Bulgarian soldiers, who died in the Russo-Turkish War. The cathedral’s gold-plated dome is 45 m high, with the bell tower reaching 50.52 m.

Sofia, National theatre

The Ivan Vazov National Theatre is Bulgaria’s biggest theatre, as well as the oldest and most stand out and most imposing theatre in the country. This theatre is one of the major landmarks in Sofia due to its prime location and grandiose architecture. The National theatre is located in the centre of Sofia and its edifice faces the City Garden.
