Presidential Office Building

July 12, 2025

Taiwan’s highest authority building, Presidential Office Building, is located on Ketagalan Boulevard. The style of the building is a combination of traditional European elements, including Baroque, Neo-Classical features, and Renaissance. The 60-meter tower at the center of the building was the tallest structure in the Taipei Basin during Japanese rule. When the Nationalist regime took power, a platform was built at the top floor to enable martial flag-raising ceremonies.

Its classical European-fusion style includes many Japanese cultural elements, such as a sunrise-facing front, and a shape in the form of the character 日, part of 日本 (Japan), as seen from the air. The building is renowned for its baroque architecture, red-brick facade, and central tower.

A Formosan pangolin from Taipei Zoo. There are 8 species of pangolins, scaly anteaters, around the world. One of the luckiest is the Formosan pangolin, a sub-species of the Chinese pangolin endemic to Taiwan. Valued for their scales, pangolins are threatened by poaching and illegal trade globally. Fortunately, although world population of pangolins is in decline, their number has increased in Taiwan.
