Norfolk

Norfolk is a waterfront city in southeastern Virginia, located at the confluence of the Elizabeth River and Chesapeake Bay. It’s home to Naval Station Norfolk, a massive naval base on Chesapeake Bay. Nauticus is a maritime museum that features the Battleship Wisconsin, a huge WWII warship.

Richmond

Richmond

Richmond, the capital of Virginia, is among America’s oldest major cities. Richmond sits on the banks of the mighty James River within 100 miles of Washington DC, Lynchburg, Charlottesville, and Williamsburg. The city has a very rich history, with homes, churches, cemeteries and battlefields all very much preserved and a major part of Richmond’s modern character. Manchester Bridge was built in 1972, replacing the old 9th street bridge. It connects downtown Richmond with Manchester, and features a pedestrian walkway.

University of Virginia

University of Virginia was founded by Declaration of Independence author Thomas Jefferson. It is known for its historic foundations, student-run honor code and ground breaking research. The Academical Village still forms the heart of the University of Virginia, and exhibits a unique U-shaped plan dominated by the Rotunda with pavilions, hotels, student rooms, and gardens arrayed in rows to its south. The buildings are excellent and highly personalized examples of Neoclassicism, shown in their relationship to the natural setting and their blending of functionalism and symbolism.

Mount Vernon

The palatial house of George Washington occupies a beautiful site overlooking the Potomac River.
Mount Vernon is the former plantation estate and burial location of George Washington, the American Revolutionary War general and the first President of the United States, his wife Martha and 20 other Washington family members. The current estate which is open to visitors includes a mansion, gardens, tombs, a working farm, a functioning distillery and gristmill, plus a museum and education center.

Monticello

Monticello, West front areal.
Few houses in America more accurately reflect the personality of their owner than Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Located on a mountaintop near Charlottesville, Virginia, the house, gardens and plantation command a view of the rolling countryside that Jefferson so dearly loved.
