St. Mark's Church

December 29, 2021

The Church of St. Mark is the parish church of old Zagreb, Croatia, located in St. Mark's Square. The 13th-century church is one of the oldest architectural monuments in Zagreb. Its colourful tiled roof, constructed in 1880, has the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right. The Gothic portal, composed of 15 figures in shallow niches, was sculpted in the 14th century.

Another beautiful view with Zagreb cathedral, the most monumental sacral building in Neo-Gothic style southeast of the Alps. Built in the 11th century, this magnificent cathedral, partially demolished after an earthquake in 1880, has a new face since the Austrian architect Hermann Bolle added two big towers that make this cathedral a symbol of Zagreb.

Thanks a lot Mihael!

Ban Jelačić Square, the central square of the city of Zagreb. An elegant square lined with grand 19th-century buildings, Ban Jelačić is a great spot to feel the city’s pulse. It often plays host to fairs and performances.  Jelačić Square is the most common meeting place for people in Zagreb. Being a part of the pedestrian zone, it is inaccessible by car, but it is the main hub for trams. The present-day square features buildings belonging to different architectural styles ranging from classicism, secession and modernism.

Thanks a lot Anja!

From Zagreb, the capital and the largest city of Croatia showing the cathedral. Zagreb Cathedral, on the Kaptol, is a Roman Catholic institution and not only the tallest building in Croatia but also the most monumental sacral building in Gothic style southeast of the Alps. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and to kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus.

Thanks for another great swap Helena.
