Roman Theatre of Mérida

The Roman Theatre of Mérida in Extremadura, is one of the grandest and most exceptionally preserved examples of ancient Roman theatrical architecture in the world. Built between 16 and 15 BCE under the patronage of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, this monumental structure forms the crown jewel of the Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida—a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The theatre's absolute showstopper is its stunning 17.5-metre-high scenic backdrop. It features two tiers of Corinthian blue-veined marble columns and a curated collection of sculptures depicting Roman emperors and gods like Ceres, Pluto, and Proserpina. Built directly into the natural slope of the San Albín hill to optimize acoustics and shield spectators from northern winds, the semi-circular grandstand could originally hold roughly 6,000 spectators.

Ganesh Himāl

Ganesh Himāl is a sub-range of the Himalayas located mostly in north-central Nepal, but some peaks lie on the border with Tibet. The highest peak in the range is Yangra with an elevation of 7,422 m. Three other peaks are over 7,000 m and fourteen others over 6,000 m. The name for the range comes from the Hindu deity Ganesha, usually depicted in the form of an elephant. In fact, the south face of Pabil (Ganesh IV) slightly resembles an elephant, with a ridge that is reminiscent of an elephant's trunk. The first ascent of Ganesh I happened on October 6th, 1955.

Historic Silver Mine

Located in Upper Silesia, in southern Poland, one of the main mining areas of central Europe, the property includes the entire underground mine with adits, shafts, galleries and other features of the water management system. Most of the property is situated underground while the surface mining topography features relics of shafts and waste heaps, as well as the remains of the 19th century steam water pumping station. The elements of the water management system, located underground and on the surface, testify to continuous efforts over three centuries to drain the underground extraction zone and to use undesirable water from the mines to supply towns and industry. Tarnowskie Góry represents a significant contribution to the global production of lead and zinc.

Coast guard memorial chapel

October 09, 2026

The Coast Guard Academy was established on the banks of the Thames River in New London, Connecticut in 1932. At over 100 acres of land, the campus is home to a variety of historic buildings and landmarks, many of which reflect traditional New England architecture. Its chapel was erected in the early 1950s. It stands as a profound monument dedicated to the heroic and valiant members of the U.S. Coast Guard who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during times of both peace and war. The most iconic feature of the chapel's classic New England brick architecture is its towering steeple, which houses a fully functional, lighthouse-style light. Modeled after traditional pier-head lanterns historically used on the Great Lakes, the lantern rotates at night and serves as a visible physical beacon for miles along both the highway and water approaches to New London.
