Montauk Point Lighthouse is owned and maintained by the Montauk Historical Society. The lighthouse was authorized by the Second Congress in 1792 under President George Washington. Construction began on June 7th, 1796 and was completed on November 5th, 1796. In 2012 the Montauk Point Lighthouse was designated a National Historic Landmark
