From Minsk

The city hall appeared in the city as soon as it acquired the Magdeburg rights. During the 19th century it hosted a court, the police, a detention room, an archive, and the city theatre. In 1857 the city hall was destroyed following an order by Russian Emperor Nicholas I. In 2004 Minsk City Hall was rebuilt at its historical site. It looks very similar to that of early 19th century. Even the walls are half a meter thick, just like before. A mini-park adjacent to the city hall was restored too. Today it looks almost the same as 100 years ago.
