Qiniandian, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, the main building in the Temple of Heaven, was built for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to pray to Heaven on the first month of spring for good harvest. Based on a three-layer 6-meter-high round platform of white marble, the hall stands 38 metres in height with a perimeter of 32 meters. Inside, the hall is supported by 28 huge phoebe-wood pillars representing seasons, months and hours.
