The Spit represents a small cape in the southeastern part of Vasilievsky Island, washed by the Big and Little Neva. Architectural complex 'Spit of Vasilyevsky Island' is one of the most beautiful places in St. Petersburg. Rostral Columns, 32 meters high and the Exchange building constitute the center of architectural composition. Situated just across the river from the Winter Palace, Vasilievsky Island constitutes a large portion of the city's historic center. Two of the most famous St. Petersburg bridges, Palace Bridge and Blagoveshchensky Bridge, connect it with the mainland to the south.
