Chūson-ji is the most famous of the World Heritage sites in Hiraizumi. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 as an important location of Pure Land Buddhism. Undoubtedly the most striking presence among the structures dotting the Chūson-ji site is the only one to have survived in its original form, the Konjiki-dō hall.
