The Islamic Centre (also known as Grand Friday Mosque), located in Male, is a monumental religious site, the largest Muslim place of worship in the Maldives. It is one of the country's most famous and beautiful marvels of architecture. Situated in the northern fringes of the capital city, close to the Hulhule ferry point and neighbouring the Republic Square (Jumhooree Maidan), the grand building is the perfect example of Islamic architecture. The colossal structure is one of the most visited landmarks in the country, and its remarkable presence dominates the city's skyline, thanks to its massive golden dome and a graceful minaret as its companion.
