Goat Island Light at Sunset. One of the most treasured historic icons of the city, Newport harbor light, built in 1842, stands sentinel along the northern end of Goat Island. To this day the beacon's light helps to guide mariners and recreational boaters accessing the harbor from Narragansett Bay.
