Leros

August 19, 2021

The island of Leros is located in the northern Dodecanese a few miles south of Patmos while to the south it is separated by a relatively narrow sea route from Kalymnos. The geographical relief of the island is characterized by small hills and innumerable coves with the largest being the bay of Laki which is the largest natural port in the eastern Mediterranean. Leros is a mythical island. According to the myth, Leros island was where the ancient Greek goddess of hunting, Artemis, used to go for hunting, thanks to the island’s large deer population. Leros Greece is a laid-back island of the Dodecanese chain, located close to Patmos and Lipsi. On the hill above the villages of Platanos and Pandeli is a strong imposing castle that dates from the Medieval times. The Castle gives a great view to the above mountainous landscape, the sea and the villages of Leros island.
