The Curonian Spit is famous for a rich cultural heritage. The old inhabitants of the spit, Curonians, were fishermen. The inhabitants of this region lived in the wooden homes with thatch roofs. Their homes were distinguished for their colouring and decorative gables. It was told, that fine carved gables of the roof served a decorative and protective function. Nowadays guests visiting Neringa can not only accommodate in such a fisherman’s house, but also have a tour in the lagoon on the restored wooden sailing boat.
