River otters are uniquely suited for life in the water with a sleek, streamlined body, webbed feet, and a strong thick tail that provides stability when swimming. Very dense fur and a high metabolic rate help keep them warm even when the watrer is freezing. Their diet consists primarily of fish, but they will also  dine on things like crayfish, crabs, frogs, snakes, insects, and even the occasional bird. their curious and playful nature make them one of the Calvert Marine Museum's most popular attractions.
