The Great Basilica stands proud at Pliska the ancient capital city of the First Bulgarian Empire. It includes the structures of the archbishop’s palace, a monastery and a Christian cathedral, as well as two necropoleis and a residential complex with monastical cells. Completed around 875, the basilica was 102.5 metres long and 30 metres wide.
