The World War II Memorial
August 07, 2022
The World War II Memorial on the National Mall commemorates the sacrifice and victory of the WWII generation. It creates a distinct, evocative and serene tribute yet remains respectful and sensitive to the historic surroundings.
Through stone architecture and bronze sculptures, the World War II Memorial recognizes the ways Americans served, honors those who fell, and recognizes the victory they achieved to restore freedom and end tyranny around the globe. Consisting of 56 granite pillars, representing U.S. states and territories, and a pair of small triumphal arches for the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, surrounding an oval plaza and fountain, it sits on the National Mall in Washington DC, between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.
Thank you Emily!
