Panská skála

Panská skála, a geologic formation 80 kilometers north of Prague, lies in the historical region of Bohemia. The volcanic basalt formation is made of hexagonal columns, which are arranged vertically extend up to 12 meters long and resemble the ones in the famous Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. It is estimated that the basalt columns emerged about 30 million years ago, as a result of volcanic activity. There is a small lake by the rock formation, which was created from a mined pit and flooded with rainwater. Panská skála is protected as a national natural monument and represents the most visited geological formation in Bohemia.
