Puerta de Alcalá

May 19, 2023

The Puerta de Alcalá is a Neo-classical gate in the Plaza de la Independencia in Madrid. It was a gate of the former Walls of Philip IV. It stands near the city center and several meters away from the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. It was once one of the five doors used to enter the walled city of Madrid .The gate, which measures 19.5 meters tall, has five arches in total with ornamental statues at the top. The statues have been said to represent virtues such as prudence, justice, restraint, and courage.

Last souvenir of my trip to Madrid.
