June 03, 2024

Chirripó National Park is a national park of Costa Rica, encompassing parts of three provinces: San José, Limón and Cartago. It was established in 1975. It is named for its most prominent feature, Cerro Chirripó, which at 3,820 m is the highest mountain in Costa Rica and it is part of the Talamanca Mountain range. The park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, offering glimpses of spider monkeys, Baird's tapirs, peccaries, and elusive jaguars and pumas. Over 400 species of birds grace the park with their presence, including woodpeckers, wood creepers, and trogons, making it a birdwatcher's paradise. Chirripo National Park is also home to more than 260 species of amphibians and reptiles.
