Nikobuchi is one of the most beautiful lakes in Japan, known for its crystal clear waters and waterfall. This remote spot, located upstream on the Niyodo River, is considered one of the top spots to witness the surreal Niyodo Blue color of the river. Nikobuchi is the plunge pool of a short but powerful waterfall, and the water is so transparent that despite the churning of the falls you can still see every detail on the bottom of the pool. The waterfall basin is tucked away in a secluded valley surrounded by trees. The best time to catch the pool in full Niyodo Blue is around midday, when sunlight shines down directly onto the water.
