Jackson Square at twilight

December 04, 2024

St. Louis Cathedral dominates Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter. It is the oldest cathedral in the nation. The first church was built on this site in 1718. The third church to exist there, today's basilica was dedicated in 1794.

Jackson Square is a historic park and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960. Every year, the square hosts the French Quarter Festival and Caroling in Jackson Square. Occasionally, formal concerts are given in the park.
