Gwanghwamun Square
January 29, 2025
Gwanghwamun Square is a public area located in the heart of central Seoul that features museums, statues, restaurants, and beautiful surrounding views. The pedestrian only area was designed to work in harmony with the surrounding scenery such as the Bukaksan Mountain. This broad, elongated square provides a grand approach to Gyeongbokgung and is used for various events. Giant statues celebrate two national heroes: Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who stands atop a plinth at the square's southern end and King Sejong, who sits regally on a throne in the middle of the square. An entrance at the base of the King Sejong statue leads down to an underground exhibition with sections on both the men.
