Built on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Dordogne, 9km from Sarlat, the Château de Castelnaud offers a magnificent panoramic view over the Dordogne Valley. Built in the 12th century, it is a perfect example of a medieval fortress. Today the Museum of War in the Middle Ages, it houses a large collection of weapons and armour and life-size reconstructions of the most powerful siege machines of the time.
