Yoshkar-Ola

March 14, 2025

The square situated between Resurrection and Bruges Embankments to the north of the River Malaya Kokshaga is known as Patriarch Square, named the statue of Patriarch Alexius II releasing a dove in the centre of the square. Behind the statue are two of Yoshkar-Ola's most famous modern buildings. One is known as the Twelve Apostles Complex which is a reconstruction of the Sheremetev Castle in Yurino. It houses a theatre, a TV company and a supermarket but is most famous for its clock which features figures of the 12 apostles who appear every three hours from 9am to 9pm. The other building is the Republican Puppet Theatre which has been built in the style of a medieval castle.
