Sendai Castle, widely known as Aoba Castle is the historic mountaintop fortress of the powerful Date clan located in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Since the original structures were mostly lost to fire and WWII bombings, the site is now a park offering the best panoramic views of Sendai's skyline and the Hirose River. A museum commemorating Aoba Castle's history can be viewed on the site. In 2003, the castle ruins were designated a National Historic Site.
