Pyrenees

February 05, 2026

The marmot, native to the Alps, was reintroduced to the Pyrenees in 1948. It prefers sunny meadows between 1,000 and 2,000 meters in altitude. It delights tourists with its playful antics and the carefree games of the marmot pups in the flowery meadows. These sociable and curious rodents spend their days feeding, playing and basking in the sun. Easily recognizable by their stocky silhouette, their distinctive coat ranging from gray-brown to reddish but especially by their high-pitched scream, marmots find a safe habitat in the heights.
