The Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, Ukraine, is an 11th-century UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned as a premier example of Byzantine architecture and the oldest stone temple in Eastern Europe. Designed in the Byzantine style, the cathedral is 29 meters high and noted for its artistic, intricate mosaics and frescoes along with over 7,000 ancient inscriptions. The architecture and monumental art of the Cathedral had a wide influence on the architecture and decoration of the Kyivan Rus’ temples.
