Angra do Heroísmo is a breathtaking historic capital located on the southern coast of Terceira Island in the Azores. Also known as Angra, its central city grid was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 due to its immense significance during the Age of Discovery. For centuries, this fortified town acted as a mandatory maritime crossroads connecting Europe, the Americas, and Africa. The vibrant civic heart of Angra features distinctive Portuguese cobblestone streets, a grand 19th-century Town Hall, and pastel facades. Igreja da Misericórdia is a striking blue-and-white 18th-century Baroque church anchoring the old harbor front.
