Waipoua Forest is New Zealand's most famous and largest remaining tract of native kauri forest. Located on the west coast of the Northland region, it is the sacred home of Tāne Mahuta, the country's largest known living kauri tree. This colossal tree stands 51 metres tall, measures nearly 14 metres in girth, and is estimated to be around 2,000 years old. The forest is highly celebrated for its immense ecological value, spiritual Māori heritage, and ancient, towering giants.
