Established in 1742, Bethlehem's historic Moravian Settlement is part of the Unesco World Heritage listed Moravian Church Settlements, recognized for it's exceptional preservation of an influential planned community and Moravian cultural heritage.
Bethlehem was the first permanent Moravian Church settlement in North America and served as the primary religious and administrative center of the Moravian Church, significantly influencing the Church’s expansion in North America and the Caribbean. Established in 1741, it stands as the most important and best-preserved Moravian settlement in North America. The 10-acre site features nine structures, including the Single Sisters’ House and the early Colonial Industrial Quarter.
