Clonmacnoise dates back from the 6th century and is perhaps the most important early christian monastic site in Ireland. Situated on the banks of the river Shannon, County Offaly, it is known for its ornate High Crosses, its two Round Towers and the ruins of a Cathedral and seven churches. It also has the largest collection of Early Christian graveslabs in Europe.
