May 03, 2026

The Scarlet Honeyeater is found along the east coast of Australia, from Cooktown, Queensland to Gippsland, Victoria, but it is less common south of Sydney, being a summer migrant in the south. The Scarlet Honeyeater occurs in a wide range of forest habitats, but is most common in open eucalypt forests and woodlands, especially those that grow near wetlands. They are frequently seen in flowering shrubs, and can be spotted in urban areas where people have planted bottlebrushes and other nectar-rich species.

Gambel's quail

March 21, 2025

The Gambel's quail is nearly as much a symbol of southeastern Arizona as the saguaro cactus and the roadrunner. Its early morning call from a fence post or other elevated perch is a welcoming sound to the desert stroller. The most numerous species of quail in the Southwest, it's equally at home in the remote desert or subarban backyards.

Thank you Denise!

Tūī have a complex variety of songs and calls, much like parrots.
