Westminster Palace

May 23, 2025

Westminster Palace, rebuilt from the year 1840 on the site of important medieval remains, is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture. The site – which also comprises the small medieval Church of Saint Margaret, built in Perpendicular Gothic style, and Westminster Abbey, where all the sovereigns since the 11th century have been crowned – is of great historic and symbolic significance.

St Margaret's Church

Known both as the church on Parliament Square and the parish church of the House of Commons, St Margaret’s is a 12th-century Anglican church situated next to Westminster Abbey. It forms part of a single UNESCO World Heritage Site with the Palace of Westminster and Westminster Abbey. Notable features include the east window of 1509 of Flemish stained glass, created to commemorate the betrothal of Catherine of Aragon to Henry VIII.

St. Paul's Cathedral

December 19, 2024

St. Paul's Cathedral is one of London's most iconic landmarks, renowned for its stunning architecture and rich history.  The building's architecture is a perfect example of Baroque style, characterized by grandeur, opulence, and a sense of drama. The exterior of St. Paul's Cathedral is a magnificent display of Baroque architecture, with its soaring dome and impressive façade. The cathedral's façade features a grand entrance that is flanked by two bell towers, which rise to a height of 67 meters. The towers are topped by statues of St. Peter and St. Paul, the patron saints of the cathedral. The façade also features a series of columns, pilasters, and pediments, which give the building a sense of height and grandeur. The most prominent feature of the cathedral's exterior is its iconic dome, which rises to a height of 111 meters and is one of the largest domes in the world. The dome is supported by eight massive piers, which are each adorned with statues of the four evangelists. The dome is covered with gilded copper, which gives it a striking appearance. The golden color of the dome is particularly striking when viewed against the blue sky, and it has become one of the most recognizable features of the London skyline.

London by Night

November 16, 2023

Elizabeth Tower, commonly called Big Ben, is among London's most iconic landmarks and must-see London attractions. Technically, Big Ben is the name given to the massive bell inside the clock tower, which weighs more than 13 tons (13,760 kg). The clock tower looks spectacular at night when the four clock faces are illuminated.

Tower Bridge

November 20, 2019

A souvenir sent from my trip to London! Tower Bridge, a combined bascule and suspension bridge, built between 1886 and 1894. It has two towers, in Victorian Gothic style, that are connected with two walkways. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become an iconic symbol of London.
