Mt Hutt

March 03, 2024

The kea is a species of large parrot found in the forested and alpine regions of the South Island. Mt Hutt is one of New Zealand's largest ski areas with some of the best natural snow around, and only a scenic 90-minute drive from Christchurch city. Mt Hutt has one of the longest vertical drops in the South Island at 683m, a great variety of terrain and has been voted New Zealand’s best ski resort from 2015 - 2022 at the World Ski Awards. It also has spectacular views! On a clear day from the summit you can see the Pacific Ocean to the east and into the heart of the Southern Alps on the west.

Rainbow Lorikeets

February 05, 2022

The rainbow lorikeet is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas.
The parents will care for the juvenile lorikeet for 8 weeks. After this time the juvenile will join other unmated lorikeets so the parents can continue reproducing. Overall, the rainbow lorikeet remains widespread and often common. According to the annual Birdlife Australia census, it is the most commonly observed bird in Australia. It is therefore considered to be of least concern by BirdLife International. The status for some localised subspecies is more precarious, being threatened by habitat loss and capture for the parrot trade.
