Cowes

July 13, 2024

Cowes is the largest town on Phillip Island, linked to the Mornington Peninsula by a ferry service to Stony Point and by road to the mainland via a bridge at San Remo. It is located approximately 142km and 2hrs from Melbourne CBD. Cowes Jetty was built in 1870 and remains a focal point of the town of Cowes. It is flanked by sheltered beaches. Fishing is a major attraction to the Cowes Jetty with numerous fish species available.

The Nobbies

January 24, 2024

The Nobbies is a large rock formation just of Point Grant. There are magnificent views of the dramatic coast line from boardwalks and viewing platforms.

The Nobbies, at the western tip of Phillip Island, offers spectacular views along Phillip Island's southern coast. The boardwalks take you through the breeding colonies of seabirds including Little Penguins and Silver Gulls. Just 1.5km offshore is one of Australia's largest Fur Seal colonies at Seal Rocks. You can view the seals via unique cameras and learn about this amazing coastal environment inside the Nobbies Centre.

Thanks so much Marnie!

The Little Penguin (Euclyptula Minor) is oly found in Southern Australian waters with the largest existing colony and at Phillip Island. At 33cm the ink blue little bird is the smallest of all the 18 known species of penguin and is unique in that it waits until sunset before coming ashore.
