Hawaiian green sea turtle

January 28, 2021

The Hawaiian green sea turtle, or honu, is listed as an endangered species.
They are the largest hard-shelled sea turtle in the world, reaching lengths of four feet and weights over 300 pounds. Out of the seven types of sea turtle, the Hawaiian green sea turtle is the most common turtle in Hawaii. With lungs two-thirds as long as their carapace, it is believed they can stay underwater for many hours depending on the animal’s size. The longest recorded downtime was five hours.

Outer Banks

December 04, 2020

The Outer Banks are barrier islands off the coast of the U.S. state of North Carolina, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. Their open-sea beaches, state parks and shipwreck diving sites make them a popular holiday destination. The Outer Banks is one of the most northernmost ranges for sea turtle nesting according to the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles. The sea turtles visit the Outer Banks to lay their eggs from easy to mid-summer. The eggs normally hatch around 50-80 days after they’re laid. The five species of sea turtles that are most likely to visit the Outer Banks are loggerhead, green, Kemp’s Ridley, hawksbill, and leatherback.

Thanks a lot Sarah!
